Explanation

People who take a fancy to Chinese divinatory practices look to large ears as part of personal features suggestive of potential success in one's career. That is what supports the claim in the beginning sentence: 'if your ears are quite big, a fortune teller will praise of your countenance as promising of wealth and nobility.'

But, as said in the second sentence, don't feel happy when someone says you are 'big-ears' because in Hoyloy the word for 'big-ears', [dtwa_hi~-] , means 'ignorant of what said to you being a lie'. The word [dtwa_hi~-], 'big-ears', is often replaced with 'incense vessel of Poy'aka', [po"a=ka-/hyu~-lO+]. But, how do people associate these two terms with each other.

In a small town called Poy'aka, the incense vessel inside the temple of Mazo, [ma+(=) tzO"], the goddess most worshipped on Taiwan, has been well-known by oral tradition for the two ears of huge size on it. Certainly your ears can not possibly be comparable to them in dimensions. Therefore, next time when someone mentions you by the name of ' incense vessel of Poy'aka', insinuating you are 'big-ears', be ready to show your ears and answer: "are my ears really so big?"
